What it is
About Mekoros
Mekoros is a tool for finding, exploring, and citing primary Torah sources. You ask a question or describe an idea, and Mekoros returns relevant sources from across Tanach, Talmud Bavli and Yerushalmi, Rishonim, Acharonim, halacha, and responsa — along with the most relevant passage, an explanation of why each source matters, and a direct link to the full text on Sefaria.
What “verified” means
Every source returned by Mekoros has been checked against its primary text on Sefaria. This means three specific things:
- •
The citation exists. Mekoros does not invent or hallucinate references.
- •
The passage we display is the actual text of that source — not a summary, not a paraphrase, not a generated quote.
- •
The attribution is correct. When Mekoros says “Rambam, Hilchot Talmud Torah 3:4,” that is in fact what Rambam wrote there.
If Mekoros cannot verify a source, the source is not returned. We would rather show you fewer sources than show you something we cannot stand behind.
Who built it
Mekoros was built by Rabbi Rael Blumenthal (raelblumenthal.org). The tool is in active development and welcomes feedback from rabbanim, educators, and learners.
