Shabbatשבת

Creation and Shabbat's Cosmic Completion

This source explores how the six days of creation established the divine attributes and actions that shape all subsequent reality, while the seventh day—Shabbat—completes and sanctifies the world through rest. The teaching connects the primordial week to the eternal pattern governing time and existence.

Recanati on the Torah, Bereshit:93

During the six days of creation, six divine attributes brought all their actions from potential into actuality until the onset of the seventh day, at which point they rested and the seventh day itself performed its action of completing what was lacking in the world, granting the world rest from work—which is why it is called Shabbat; moreover, all subsequent events are determined from the six days of creation, as everything that occurs is merely a revelation of what was already created and decreed then.

Likkutei Sichos 10 Bereishis

This sichah on Bereishis develops the theme that a beginning is not merely chronological but defining, because the first act establishes the mission and inner quality of all that comes after. It is suggestive for Shabbos Bereishis as the year’s formative launch point.
