Gevurot Hashem 30
The Holy One wished to be the Redeemer but concealed Himself from the people for a time, then revealed Himself again; this hidden-then-revealed pattern corresponds to the doubled "visitation" (pekidah pekadti) mentioned regarding the exodus, and similarly the future redemption will involve a doubled aspect as indicated by the verse "a man shall grow, and from beneath him shall grow"—a doubling necessary because the redemption, being a supreme elevation, cannot arrive all at once.
כי רצה הקב"ה להיות הגואל נכסה מהם זמן מה, ואחר כך יחזור להגלות. וכל זה לענין מופלא, ולפי דעתי הוא נגד שני פקידות שאמר (שמות ג, טז) "פקד פקדתי", ולכך היה כאן שתי פקידות. ולעתיד גם כן יהיו נגאלים בצד"י כפולה, דכתיב (זכריה ו, יב) "איש צמח ומתחתיו יצמח", יש כאן שני צמיחות. וכל זה להעלות הגאולה, שאי אפשר שתבא הגאולה, שהיא מעלה עליונה, בפעם אחת.
