Why does Moshe's address to Klal Yisrael about Shabbos here in Vayakhel feel so much terser than the version he received from Hashem in Ki Sisa — no "שבתותי", no "לעשות את השבת", no שני terms (שמור/זכור)?

Rabbeinu Bahya, Shemot 35:2

Q — Why does Moshe's address to Klal Yisrael about Shabbos here in Vayakhel feel so much terser than the version he received from Hashem in Ki Sisa — no "שבתותי", no "לעשות את השבת", no שני terms (שמור/זכור)?

A — Rabbeinu Bachya notices the truncation and reads it as a deliberate pedagogical signal. The earlier discussion of Shabbos was nistar — it gestured at the שבת העליונה, the cosmic Shabbos of the upper worlds, the dual שמור/זכור structure. That conversation was held privately, Hashem to Moshe. Here Moshe is standing in front of כל עדת בני ישראל — men, women, the whole heterogeneous assembly. So he gives them only the nigleh, only the operative pshat of the mitzvah, and is silent on the secret. RBB calls this a פתח — Moshe has opened a hatch for us, showing by his own example that sof haTorah is not for the rabim. (RBB cites the bas kol that rebuked Onkelos for translating *too much* of the chumash, kal va'chomer for whoever expounds nistar before the masses.)
